Author Background
Dwelling Places- Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Brunswick, Maine while growing up, next she lived in Andover, Massachusetts, then Cincinnati, Ohio, and lastly she retired to a Victorian home in Hartford, Connecticut.
Schooling-Harriet attended the Hartford Female Seminary School and later taught at this school as a Physical Education and Home Economics teacher.
Noteworthy Accomplishments- Stowe encouraged the United States women to use their influence against slavery. Uncle Tom's Cabin played a huge role in the outbreak of the war because it showed people the true brutality and evil from slavery, which nobody had ever done before.
Cause of Death- (6/14/1811-7/1/1896) Since Stowe lived to age 85; one would assume that she died of natural causes.
Literary Genres/ Techniques- Harriet Beecher Stowe published a total of 30 books. She wrote novels, poetry, and essays on anything from religion to child care. This is a Sentimental Novel which is an 18th Century genre where writers write their emotional and intellectual views of sentimentalism.
Interesting Fact- Today there is a Harriet Beecher Stowe center, which is located in Connecticut.
