Uncle Tom- He is the protagonist character who is an honest, caring, loving, and kind hearted man that is willing to do anything that it takes to fight slavery without causing violence. Uncle Tom dies as a martyr, meaning he sacrificed his life fighting so that other slaves could be free. He is idolized by all the other slaves, and his good spirits make other slaves better people.
George Shelby- He is Arthur Shelby's son and he is a round character. He is not vividly mentioned until the end of the story when he finds Tom, just about dead. He is nicknamed Mas'r George and he is the man who freed all of the slaves from Simon Legree's Plantation.
Eliza Harris- She is also a round character. She is described as a young, pretty, and smart girl. She is the maid at the Shelby household. She is involved in one of the exciting parts of the story, when she safely makes it across a half frozen Ohio River.
Simon Legree- He plays the role as an antagonist character. He is known for his harsh treatment of slaves, and lonely personal life. He abuses all of his slaves, but Tom is abused the most. He eventually kills Tom from brutal beatings, and whippings. He fights against Tom about slavery, and especially abused Tom because of that.
Mr. Haley- He is a flat character in the story. He is a evil slave owner who like Simon Legree also abuses his slaves. Mr. Haley did own Tom in the beginning of the story before he sold Tom to Mr. St.Clare.
Eva- A young and enthusiastic little girl is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story she was racist and by the end of the story her best friend(Tom) was an African American. She was racist in the beginning because she was born in the south, and the only way she knew to treat African Americans was poorly.
